5K Run/Walk for Sara Cunningham

Please join us for a 5K Run/Walk and Kids' Fun Run to help raise funds for Sara! Mrs. Sara Cunningham, former Andrews Attic Manager and 744th Communications Squadron Key Spouse, suffered a massive head injury in late May 2017 due to an accidental fall. She nearly lost her life, but following numerous head surgeries and months of intensive care, she is beginning to recover. Sara has recently returned to her home for long-term in-home rehabilitative care; however, these costs are not covered by the Cunningham’s military retiree health care insurance and will soon exceed their personal savings. Sara has dedicated much of her life to supporting our military families and Joint Base Andrews community as a spouse of a retired Airman and current Air Force civilian servant, a mother of a MSgt (Select) in the Air Force, and a selfless volunteer. As the Andrews Attic Manager for over three years, she volunteered over 40 hours/week to ensure military families and retirees received access to free clothes, furniture, food & diaper pantry items, and more. As a base Key Spouse and Charitable Treasurer for the Andrews Spouses Club, she has supported countless military families and philanthropic activities, such as Dorm Dinners and college scholarships for local military kids. In 2016, she was awarded the Joint Base Andrews Volunteer Excellence Award. Now, Sara needs our help to help her recover the critical life skills she has lost, such as standing, walking, and eating on her own. Registration for the run/walk only costs $10 (kids under 16 are free), and 100% of the proceeds will go to Sara to offset rehabilitative costs. There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes for registered runners in the adult male and female categories ($100 for 1st, $50 for 2nd, and $25 for 3rd). Until 3 November, you can also contribute to Sara's recovery by purchasing a "Sara's Wingman" t-shirt at: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/sara_strong
